After Queen's Day became an official holiday, more and more cities and villages started celebrating the night before Queen's Day. This night was called Queen's Night. After the coronation of HM King Willem-Alexander in 2013, the night before King's Day is of course called King's Night.

With the majority of the country not having to work the next day, King's Night is one of the most enjoyable nights out of the year. The celebration of King's Night is often a foretaste of the real party King's Day .

Dress warmly for King's Night

It looks like it's going to be a cold King's Night this year. Some media even report that the festivities on April 26 and 27 will have to do with a lower temperature than last Christmas. But these lower temperatures certainly shouldn't spoil the fun.

King's Night 2017 seems to be getting bigger every year, some villages and cities don't even have enough of King's Night and King's Day. No, these villages and cities have a whole party week connected to King's Day.

Enjoy a long party on the king

It is clear that King's Night is a special party night for many municipalities. In Leiden, for example, pubs and cafes are allowed to stay open an hour longer, until 02:00. For many hospitality entrepreneurs, this will result in higher turnover.

Almost every major city hosts multiple music festivals, often with a foretaste on King's Night. Some highlights include THE LIFE I LIVE music festival in The Hague. This festival is a sequel to the party night that used to be called Queen's Night. This was a free open-air festival that was celebrated from 1989.

Another event we recommend is the King's Night Concert in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra plays a piece by singer-songwriter hit Patrick Watson. Don't expect classical music. Do expect indie pop, soulful folk and some classical influences that merge into an eclectic whole.

To get all the partygoers home safely, public transport will be running more frequently than usual in many places. This will ensure that the flow of visitors to and from home is well-managed. Check the departure times of public transport in advance. If you are unable to make these times, ordering a taxi is a good idea. Taxis are always busy on days like King's Night.
