Carnival 2017: How do you create an original outfit? No ready-made costumes for you this year at carnival, you have decided to do it completely differently this year. Designing your own costume can go two ways. Either you make everything yourself or you buy parts of your outfit online and make a nice whole of it. Here we give you some tips on how you can make sure you have the best costume in the whole area this year.

Create your own costume

Making your own costume takes a lot of time, but putting together yourcarnival outfit is much easier. A fun and original idea is to have two different halves in one outfit. For example, left is a cowboy and right is an Indian. Or left is an angel and right is a devil . You can go in many directions with this and you can easily sew two outfits together. You can also alternate this with a different front and back or top and bottom.

The halves you have left can be kept as a back-up. If you go for the full carnival tour this will definitely come in handy!

Make-up and contact lenses

If you really want to make your carnival outfit believable, then face paint is great! Paint yourself or have a friend apply your face paint . Of course, there are videos on the internet on how to apply your face paint.

In addition to make-up, people are also increasingly using contact lenses. For a day of light blue eyes or perhaps completely white eyes! If you have never worn lenses before, try them out a week before carnival. Some people cannot get used to the feeling of lenses and get red eyes. It is better to discover this early so that you do not stand in the pub with irritated eyes.

Mask
You can buy a mask but if you want a small and unique mask, you can also make a mask yourself. A few tips on how to make a mask yourself can be found below.

Don't choose paper or cardboard but use foam or fabric. Paper and cardboard don't do well with a beer shower. In addition, it can irritate your skin so that you can walk around with scratches on your face for a week after the festivities. Also don't use tulle around the face because many people get an allergic reaction to it.

Use examples from the internet. Search on websites like Pinterest for an example of the shape you want to make. If it is very complicated, a pattern of the mask can be super handy. You can also find good tutorials on YouTube if you need help. Then look especially at tutorials from people who make cosplay costumes.

Shine like a diamond
You don't have to dress up as an extra member of the Toppers, but glitter is fun to add and stands out well. It certainly doesn't have to look like you fell into a bath of glitter!

Accessories
A good carnival outfit is completed with fun accessories . You can think of scarves, belts, gloves, jewelry or maybe even a holster. If you want to be a bit weirder, you can also walk around with a big balloon behind you. This is especially handy for your friends because you can be spotted so easily!

What kind of material?

If you are going to make your entire costume yourself, choose bright colours or prints. Nothing is too crazy! You can find the most diverse fabrics at fabric shops. You should think well in advance whether you want to wear a jacket or a sweater under your outfit. Your costume should then be at least 5 centimetres larger.

Making your own costumes doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. What you do need is a good plan. Do you want to make a large costume? Make sure you use lightweight material so that you don't have pain after an hour of wearing your costume. Use foam or plastic instead of iron parts. This immediately makes a big difference in weight.

Make sure that the weight of your costume does not rest on your head or neck but on your shoulders. With the weight on your shoulders, you will experience less discomfort from the weight. With large masks or complete heads, it is nice if you can walk around with it all day. A solution can be to wear a harness and attach the head section to it.

We wish you a fun carnival 2017!
